Fixing Fathers: Fixing Fathers Inc. is based out of Hamden and works with fathers and their families to provide access to nature, fostering a connection between family and outdoor experiences.

In 2019 and 2020, Fixing Fathers received two $1,000 micro-grants. With the help of the grant, Fixing Fathers held its annual “Fishing With Dad” event on August 31, 2019. Children learned about different types of fish found in the Hamden area, fishing safety and how to properly cast a line. After their training session, the participants were able to put their new skills to the test and practice fishing with their fathers. The “Fishing With Dad” event was a success and Fixing Fathers Inc. continues to support their community by providing valuable resources for fathers in Connecticut.

Schooner-Exploring Our Coast Summer Camp:The New Haven Land Trust was awarded $10,000 in 2018 by the Greater New Haven Green Fund to support the “Schooner: Exploring our Coast” Youth Summer Program. The New Haven Land Trust partnered with the Schooner Summer Camp program to fund scholarships for 40 of New Haven residents.

The camp provided the opportunity for participants to learn sailing skills, marinebiology and stewardship of coastal habitats on the Long Island Sound. During the summer of 2018, a day camp ran eight weeks for children ages 4-12, a Leaders in Training program for older children
ages 13-14 and a volunteering Junior Counselor program for teens 15-17.

384 youths from the Greater New Haven area attended the camp with about 80 campers per week.

Outdoor Festivals: In 2013, The Greater New Haven Green Fund awarded an $800 microgrant to The West River Watershed Partnership to support their summer festival held each year in the Barnard Nature Center.  Residents were treated to canoe rides in the lagoon, displays of live aquatic organisms, a magic show, and safe bicycling materials.  Our grant helped purchase food and other materials for the festival.

GNHGF also awarded a $500 grant to Elm City Park Conservancy in 2012 to support their  East Shore Festival held in the park.  Tai chi and martial arts demonstrations, a magic show for children and a tour of the recent pollinator garden at the newly designated urban oasis were featured.  Residents were able to connect with local groups that were able to engage residents under the shade trees. The funds helped pay for the magic show and food for the event.  It was the first festival held in East Shore Park in many years.
